1)
Biopsies shipped overnight are received by 10:30 AM
from Federal Express
2) Serial frozen sections for immunofluorescence
(immunoglobulin and complement components) and H&E
stain are performed and examined by the
pathologist. A preliminary finding is called to
the submitting
physician, if indicated or requested.
3) Processing (overnight) of tissue for LM and EM is
initiated.
4) On Day 2
a) LM and all special stains are completed and
examined by the pathologist,
b) EM sections are prepared and examined by the
pathologist,
c) the submitting physician is called, if indicated
or requested,
d) the final report is prepared, signed, and faxed
to the submitting physician, and a signed copy of
the report is mailed to the submitting physician,
the hospital pathologists, and hospital medical
records.
e) Electron micrographs and digital color
photographs of representative LM and IF lesions are
prepared by the examining pathologist during the
initial examination.
